About the Author
Barbara Ann Kipfer, Ph.D., is a lexicographer who has authored or compiled more than forty books, including the Dictionary of American Slang (with Robert L. Chapman), The Order of Things, Writer's Digest Flip Dictionary, and the bestselling 14,000 Things to Be Happy About. She received her doctorate in linguistics from England's University of Exeter.
Dr. Robert L. Chapman, the founding editor of the Dictionary of American Slang, was a professor of English at Drew University.

A serious work that is part of American English Language

I was still using the original from 1961, with the cover falling off. Yes it is outdated and I found this edition to be an excellent update. I'll probably use it until the cover also falls off. Too many scoff at slang and the bad words, but it is a serious work that is part of American English Language. An excellent reference for anyone to have.

Not much background

Had hoped this would be more like the great TV show that gave more of the origin of the expressions. Some of these like "the whole 9 yards" were not wat we had heard before
