Yet, as Gijs van Donselaar explains, the major traditions in the theory of economic justice, both from the libertarian right and from the egalitarian left, have failed to appreciate the moral objection to exploitative behavior that this case displays. Those traditions entertain radically opposed views on how private property should be distributed, but they do not consider the legitimacy of constraints on the exercise of property rights--however they are distributed.

The second part of the book demonstrates how this failure clears the way for a recent egalitarian argument, gaining in popularity, for a so-called unconditional basic income. If all have an initial right to an equal share of the resources of the world, then it soon seems to follow that all have a right to an equal share of the value of the resources of the world, which could be cashed in as a labor-free income. That inference is only valid if moral behavior similar to that of the farmer is tolerated.

Van Donselaar argues that, ultimately, a confusion about the nature and value of freedom of choice is responsible for the odd conception of private rights in resources that would justify exploitation.

This book is a must-have-read for every thinker interested in issues of market justice, (non)exploitation, self-ownership, allocation of natural resources and basic income. Though I deliberately disagree with the challenging central thesis of this book, it is a thesis one cannot effort to have no opinion on.

A Great Entomology Textbook

Well-organized, well-written introductory text to Entomology is more than your basic textbook. Includes a logical progression of information, as well as critical taxonomy keys, this is one of the best science text books I've ever seen. This book is sure to be a foundation that even graduate students will refer back to again and again.

Quite detailed about the structure and function of insects. Perfect for the budding taxonomist. This is an "elder" edition and thus very reasonably priced via Amazon's used books. A smart student could use this edition and eschew whatever overpriced tome his professor is selling!

Excellent Resource Book for Beauty Jouralists

As a beauty writer, I consider this book my new bible. Each cosmeceutical ingredient has its own entry and each entry is packed with useful information and references. Entry sections include: source, history, chemistry, oral uses, topical uses, safety issues, environmental impact, formulation considerations, usage considerations, background and more. The writing is clear and comprehensive and the book is very well organized, making it easy for me to find the info I need--and fast.

A Must Have for Anyone Seriouly Interested in Skin Care

This book about cosmetic ingredients should benefit anyone with a serious interest in skin care, including dermatologists, cosmetic chemists, aestheticians and keen lay people. The author discusses the research on many ingredients, including some of the most commonly recognized, such as the retinoids, vitamins C and E, aloe, resveratrol (a red wine component), petrolatum, silicones and honey. The text, although unique, is easily understood, and by separating fact from fiction allows insight into cosmeceutical claims. The author's straightforward and unbiased approach toward skin care makes this an excellent reference text. The well-placed overviews, such as those on pigmentation, aging and acne, combined with chapters on, for example, skin structure and cosmetic labeling, lift this text beyond its encyclopedic nature.

Nevertheless I like the book and it does indeed give useful information ...

The information in the book is rather undetailed. It does, however, cover most of the standard ingredients and gives much interesting stuff to read. In my point of view books in this price category should be a bit thicker than 400 pages; other scientific books I use for my studies are three to five times as thick. Nevertheless I like the book and it does indeed give useful information about cosmetics in general.

2nd most important parenting book!

This book gets right to the heart of parenting, with practical examples and much-needed encouragung illustrations and proofs from their own lives with their children. Results speak loudly. Their children have burning hearts. I loved reading excerpts actually written by her family concerning the principles she is teaching.

I found I really needed this book. It reinforced some of the things we knew we were doing right, but received criticism for. It also taught us many new things and reminded us of some things we knew we needed to be doing but have not been. And of course, I learned new things I cannot wait to implement.

I know this is a vague review. But, in short, I consider this book the second most important book of reference for parenting in our lives now (the first being the Bible). Cliche? Maybe, but I mean it.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to have their children grow to be fiery passionate lovers of Jesus.

Wow! a book that communicates so practically what my husband and I have envisioned for our family. A Must Read for Parents and Mentors

Raising Burning Hearts is one of the best books on how to raise up the next generation with a deep and powerful love of God. Patricia Bootsma will give you great examples and practicals on how exactly a parent (or spiritual parent) can equip their family to obtain the sacred fire in their hearts. I have learned a lot from this book, including many new insights that I did not think of. Bootsma gives many parenting tips that aren’t taught typically such as blessing your children, prophesying over them, teaching them how to listen to God in the place of prayer. These truths, when applied properly, will surly bring the children forth in their destiny. With this guide book, the next generation will truly have their eyes set on God and a fire will be blazing in their hearts. I recommend all parents, grandparents, legal guardians, mentors, spiritual parents, or even those who will one day be parents, to read this book and help raise up burning hearts.

This is an ok book. It's more like anatomy and physiology. Doesnt FOCUS on nursing implications. They are scattered throughout the reading. Good for review.

I'm so happy I ordered this book. I'm new to critical care nursing in a consortium and this book has better explained things and helped to tie it all together from the lectures. If you have been out of school for a while the A&P reviews of systems at the beginning of the chapters are to the point, short but with enough info to jog your memory.

Thelans Critical Care Nursing books are excellent. I used this book to study while I was a Critical Care RN. I took and passed the CCRN exam. Every question that that I remembered was covered in this book.
This book is an excellent resourse and a "must have" if you are serious about sitting for the CCRN exam or just becomming a knowledgeable critical care nurse.

Great study guide. Highly recommend! I just passed my CLEP on American History 2 (1865 - present). I studied Newman's "United States History" and after I was finished I went over review questions in this Study Guide. It really focuses attention to the events and situations CLEP requires you to know for this exam.

I wish they sold this individually (thus cheaper) instead of a guide for all 33 exams. I only needed the one for American Government. Under than my little whine, this guide is good. It is important to note that this is just a guide. There's really nothing on this book except a breakdown of the exams and about 90 sample questions for each exams. You would need to buy other actual study materials.

The sample questions are worth their weigh in gold though. I took it right before actually studying for the exam and it is helping me figure out what is important and what is not while I am reading/studying the actual study material.

The reader is walked through the production of seven complete (and fun!) games, starting with a simple Memory type game, and moving up through various styles of games including a frogger clone and a Missile Defense clone, until finally ending with a game titled "Stunt Jumper", which brings together all of the techniques learned throughout the book. Morrison's method of teaching is really quite brilliant. Only the most essential parts of the source code are listed in the book, the rest is on the accompanying CD. Once a particular part of the code is explained, it isn't explained again later, even if it's central to the game being made. The reason for this is simple. It makes the user type the code again with each game, which reinforces the concepts presented. If you have to physically do it yourself every time (as you will when you are a professional game developer), you will have a much more solid grasp of both the code, and much more importantly, the concepts behind the code.

The reader is expected to already have a solid grasp of C++, and at least a partial understanding of Win32 programming. While others have complained about these requirements, I feel they are actually the books strong point. I've read many books geared towards beginning game programming - and all of them stop after giving you the basics. Very few of them actually walk you completely through making an entire game, let alone seven! Every aspect of game programming is shown here, from loading the bitmaps as resources to display on the screen, to getting music playing, to various ways of accepting input from the user, even going so far as to include joystick support. Lot's of little things that other books leave out are covered in detail also. Just how do you get a high score to display properly on the screen? Explained here. How do I get my background to scroll? Covered. How the heck am I supposed to eliminate that annoying flickering my sprites keep doing? No problem, this book will show you.

If you've ever been frustrated with other newbie style books either not giving enough information, or glossing over extremely complex processes without fulling explaining anything, then this book is for you. If you have no background whatsoever in programming, but want a quick route to learning game development, start with Game Development All in One (First Edition), and as soon as you've finished the section on Win32 programming, junk that book and move to this one. At the end you will have a completely solid grasp on game programming, and enough background to switch back to Game Development All in One and move on the chapters covering more complex stuff like DirectX.

Quite good, but not perfect

First of all, sorry for my bad English :

I've been programming C++ for a little while and I decided I was ready to learn more complex subject like game programming (that's what I love). So I bought that book (the French version, but's it's nearly the same book).

The book is well writen, and the games you make are fun. First thing, a lot of code (and especially the more complicated code, like the Bitmap class), are not explained on the book. For exemple for the Bitmap class, you have to copy the code which is on the CD, and you don't understand it... And some code are really complicated, like thei Bitmap class (again), and it's really strange because he writes his own Bitmap loader, whereas there's a Win32's function to do exactly the same, easier,...

But the worst thing is that the game engine is not powerfull at all. I know it's a beginning book but it is bad builded... And finally, Win32 API is not made for games, and I advise you to learn SDL, which is made for video games,...
